The Janata Dal (United) on Saturday (October 24, 2026) expelled its MLA from Bihar’s Mokarna, Anant Kumar Singh, from the party for six years. The NDA coalition partner in Bihar has also urged the State Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar to make his membership from the House “null and void”.

Mr. Singh went against the JD(U)’s official candidate Neeraj Kumar and instead supported Jan Suraaj nominee Anuj Singh. The party has also sought his disqualification as an MLA.

In a notice signed by Bihar JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, the party alleged that Mr. Singh had repeatedly ignored its directives and made derogatory remarks against senior leaders.

It also cited his campaign support for a rival party’s candidate contesting against the JD(U)’s official nominee as grounds for the action.

His wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, has also been expelled from the party for six years, with her primary membership terminated with immediate effect.
