‘Jailer 2’: After 40 years, Rajinikanth watches his blockbuster film with fans

In a rare development, Tamil star Rajinikanth watched his latest blockbuster, Jailer 2, with fans. Production house Sun Pictures posted on X (Formerly Twitter) that the superstar watched his film in a theatre with fans after four decades.

“For the first time in 40 years, Superstar Rajinikanth joins fans to witness Jailer 2 on the big screen,” wrote Sun Pictures. Directed by Nelson, the Tamil movie hit the screens on October 15, 2026. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the sequel to the 2023 hit has become a major blockbuster.

Sun Pictures shared a video of Rajinikanth enjoying the movie on an IMAX screen with fans in Chennai. The veteran star is seen entering the theatre and greeting Anirudh. He later greets Nelson before heading home after the show.

Jailer 2 stars a huge ensemble, with SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Namo Narayana, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, and Hrithik Roshan essaying prominent roles. The movie recently crossed the ₹500-crore box-office mark.

The Hindu review of the movie said, “Jailer 2 ends with a hint at a possible third film. Whether the Jailer template could sustain one more film, we can’t say yet. After all, before the first Jailer film, audiences had written off Nelson as a one-trick pony.

“But Jailer 2, especially, is proof of a serious filmmaker at the helm, who is also, incidentally, the funniest. Spotting this talent and trusting him to direct such a massive project — not once but twice — is another move only Rajini can make. In thalaivar we believe.”
